Whether buying or selling this holiday season, it doesn’t mean you can’t entertain family and friends!

When it comes to décor, deck the halls but don’t go overboard. If you are trying to sell your home, some homebuyers may not be able to look past holiday decorations. Keeping it minimal, yet elegant will help keep that beautiful fireplace or picturesque windows visible.

A simple tip before decorating is to declutter.

Adding holiday décor to pre-existing clutter will only make the area end up looking more cluttered. Remember to keep items proportional to the space, overwhelming decorations can make that room look smaller than it is.

When decorating, keep within the colour scheme of your home - light colours call for more muted tones in decorations, while a neutral palette can tastefully host rich tones.
By adding fresh organic elements to your space such as pinecones and fresh garland will keep you on-trend this holiday season.
The inflatable Santa on your front lawn and snowflake decals on your windows may be whimsical, it’s best to skip those this year and opt for traditional string lights to accent your home.

Now you are done decorating, it’s time for family and friends to arrive!!

Entice the senses by dimming the lights and having a pot of fresh apple cider brewing on the stove will create a warm inviting atmosphere.

Themed cocktails with less alcohol are always a good option, especially when guests are travelling. Try replacing spirits with specialty liqueurs to bring down the alcohol content. Healthy mocktails and cocktails are on the rise – kombucha and fresh fruit juices make for a delicious option for your guests. To make those drinks memorable, remember the garnishes – think frozen cranberries, cinnamon sizzle sticks and dehydrated fruits like orange and apple slices.

With a drink in hand, offer beautiful and bountiful boards of charcuterie, antipasto and dessert boards as grazing stations. This will allow your guests to mingle and eat at their pleasure. Plant-based options are more and more popular this holiday season – offer vegan cheeses, organic fruit and vegetables, dips and protein bites.

Finally, it’s time to relax and enjoy your time with family and friends. Buying or selling your home can be stressful, don’t let it be and take a moment to reflect and create memories this holiday season.

Warmest wishes this holiday season!
